Steven Fletcher should be fit for selection when we return to Championship action against Forest at Hillsborough on Saturday after football’s three-month lockdown due to the coronavirus crisis.
Fletcher has been back in full training this week after missing some earlier sessions with a slight knock and Garry Monk said: “With Fletch, he picked up an injury last week so he didn’t train, a slight niggle, but he has been back in training this week and has trained all week so that’s good.”
Loanee Josh Windass is ruled out of the Forest game after picking up an injury in training last week and will be assessed at the end of the month before a decision is made on his possible future at S6.
Our last action before lockdown was a 5-0 thrashing at Brentford on March 7 and we go into the final nine matches in 15th position, nine points clear of the relegation places and eight points adrift of the final play-off spot.
Saturday’s game is behind closed doors and kicks off at 3pm.
Fletcher is also one of several players out of contract at the end of the month and, with the season now extended to the end of July, Monk is keen to keep the group together … at least until the campaign is completed.
He confirmed that Kieran Lee has already agreed to stay until the season is complete and added: “In terms of the players in the group that are out of contract, they have been asked to extend beyond this month and into next to complete these games and that’s the short term view right now.
“They’ve all been asked, there are discussions still going on with that but every player in the training group has been asked to extend.”
Monk added that Wednesday are keen to keep our loanees for the remainder of the season and are in discussions with their parent clubs to try to secure their services.
