Jamal Lowe’s hopes of playing at this summer’s World Cup finals ended in disappointment early today.

Lowe was an unused sub for Jamaica in their World Cup qualifier play-off final against DR Congo in Mexico.

The game went to extra time after a goalless 90 minutes and it was DR Congo who grabbed the all-important goal on 100 minutes, so sealing a place in the finals.

Ex-Owl Bailey Cadamarteri played the first 74 minutes in the decider.

Meanwhile, Pierce Charles came on as sub keeper at half time for Northern Ireland in their friendly against Wales in Cardiff on Tuesday evening.

With Northern Ireland having taken a first-half lead, Charles was beaten when Wales equalised straight after the break but there were no further goals and the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

Wednesday defender Gabriel Otegbayo did not feature in the Republic of Ireland under-21s late 1-0 win in Kazakhstan, keeping alive their slim hopes of qualifying for next year’s European finals.
