Wednesday have signed Middlesbrough keeper Seny Dieng on an emergency loan and he will go straight into the side for Sunday’s derby clash at Sheff U.

With loanee Murphy Cooper suffering a groin injury, we moved to secure the services of the Senegalese international who remarkably becomes our seventh keeper of the season, following in the footsteps of Pierce Charles, Ethan Horvath, Logan Stretch, Cooper, Joe Lumley and … Liam Palmer.

Dieng began his career with Grasshoppers in Switzerland, then moved to Germany with Duisberg before joining QPR in 2016. After several loan moves, Dieng returned to West London and played more than 100 games for Rangers.

The 31-year-old, who has nine caps for Senegal, joined Middlesbrough in 2023 and now heads to Hillsborough as emergency cover following our latest goalkeeper crisis, which will see Cooper likely to be out for up to four weeks.

That means boss Henrik Pedersen can be expected to look to extend Dieng’s current stay at S6, and the keeper will also definitely play in the away game at Norwich next Wednesday under EFL regulations which mean he must start all matches within the initial seven-day agreement. On the plus-side, Pierce Charles continues to recover from his second shoulder injury of the season and Pedersen says he could return next month.
Defender Liam Cooper is expected to be in the Wednesday squad at Bramall Lane after coming on as a sub during the second half of last Saturday’s 2-1 home defeat to Millwall and, Murphy Cooper aside, Pedersen reports no new injury doubts.
The game is a noon kick off and is live on Sky Sports.
