Rhoys Wiggins could depart Wednesday during the transfer window after asking to leave the club.
Carlos Carvalhal said today that Wiggins had requested a move two months ago as he was frustrated at not getting a regular starting place at left back. The head coach said he told him at the time that he wanted to keep Wiggins as cover for Daniel Pudil but, if he felt the same when the transfer window opened, then he would reconsider the situation.
The player approached him again recently to reaffirm he wanted to leave and, with the loan signing of another left back – Joe Bennett – this week, Carvalhal says Wiggins may be saying farewell in the near future.
Both Brighton and Bristol City have been linked with Wiggins, who joined us from Charlton in August but has made only six appearances so far this season.
