Danny Rohl felt Wednesday deserved a point after a dramatic added-time defeat at West Brom.
With the home side’s winner coming in the 97th minute, Rohl said: “A draw would have been fantastic today and deserved. I really feel for my players.
“West Brom were the better team in the first half, they had more control and it was important that we tried to stay in the game.
“The second half was a good Championship game from both teams, with both sides trying to win the match. They scored the goal, then a big credit to my team, we stayed in the game and we were still aggressive, we created more and more with the ball. The equaliser was well deserved, but then we concede a goal from a set-piece. It’s hard to take today.”
A big talking point came after 52 minutes when Djeidi Gassama looked to have put us ahead. Neither the referee nor linesman signalled any problem with the ‘goal’ but then, some 15 seconds later and with Wednesday players and fans still celebrating, the referee disallowed the effort for offside, Josh Windass deemed to be interfering with keeper Joe Wildsmith’s line of sight when the shot came in.
Rohl said: “After 16 seconds to take a goal back without VAR, this is a bit hard to take. For me, that means the decision is not really clear for the ref to do that.”
We began the match without injured skipper Barry Bannan and then lost Di’Shon Bernard during the game with what looked like a knee injury.
The Owls boss said: “Dish looks not good, it could be a long one, so let’s see. This is very sad and I feel for him. With Barry, we don’t know when he will be back, it could be four to six weeks, or it could be seven days, it’s not clear at the moment. This is football, we have to stick together, prepare for the next game and go again.”
