Danny Rohl hailed his Wednesday squad’s belief and mentality after this afternoon’s three-goal recovery at the Riverside Stadium.
After seeing the Owls turn a 3-o half-time deficit into a 3-3 scoreline inside the opening 16 minutes of the second half, Rohl explained that he changed the shape of the team at the interval, switching the format to a 4-1-4-1 system to get more control in midfield.
He said: “We then had a better structure and the football we played in the opening 20 minutes of the second half was outstanding.”
On his half-time team talk, Rohl added: “I was very calm. I said we have to stick together in the second half and that if we score then we will get the momentum.
“Getting the first goal almost straightaway helped us and we were back in the game.
“If you had told me at half time we would finish 3-3 I would have taken this immediately. To come here and get that result after being three-down was outstanding from my team.
“Everybody should be proud of them today and, all in all, I’m happy to take a point.”
The fightback means Wednesday have now taken 15 points from losing positions this season and Rohl commented: “It shows we are strong as a group, have belief and a big mentality.
“We are on a journey and we should not think that because we are in this position everything is now easier.
“I think at present there is a gap to the top eight, we want to close this but for this to happen we need more than just the players we have.
“We are in a good flow, we have this belief. We now have 33 points halfway through the season, compared to last year with 16 points. It is a huge step but it is a long journey and hopefully everyone understands where we are at.”
