Danny’s joy after S6 debut brings long-awaited victory

Danny Rohl spoke about creating a winning mindset, high intensity football, the great atmosphere at Hillsborough and the potential of the club after his S6 managerial debut brought our first Championship win of the season.

Talking after the 2-0 South Yorkshire derby victory over Rotherham, Rohl said: “We scored two goals and got a clean sheet and it was a great high-intensity performance against a difficult opponent. The short-term goal is to stay in the league and we need a lot of points. It would also be amazing to create something special here because the potential is huge.”

He added: “Today we got the reward for the performance, which is the win. We had the gameplan, the players carried out what we wanted them to do and we got the three points.

“We played with intensity right from the start because this is an intense division and that is what we must do.

“We played on the front foot which is what we need to do to win games. I can see the improvement in the short time I have been here and now we must continue and improve more and more.

“We are creating a winning mindset. In the last two games we were unfortunate to get nothing but today we got the win and it is nice to be part of a winning dressing room.”

And after sampling the Hillsborough matchday atmosphere for the first time, the manager commented: “It was amazing to see the stadium and listen to the stadium like this.

“The atmosphere was special and I thank all the fans for that. The fans have made me feel so welcome since my first day, so to give them something to smile about today makes me very happy.”
