Danny on pride for his players … and view on the play-offs

Danny Rohl spoke of the pride he feels for his players after today’s added-time Hillsborough defeat to struggling Hull City which seemingly marked the end of our play-off ambitions.

After the 1-0 loss, coupled with the backdrop of unpaid wages to staff and the uncertainty of a possible three-window transfer embargo if the situation isn’t solved by Monday, Rohl said: “Big credit to my team to take this tough week, to go again and fight again for this club.”

He added: “Today I will not talk too deeply about this game and the result. I want to say I am proud of my team and how far we have come in this period of time.

“These players have outstanding character, they will go to the end and today these points could have gone either way.

“We had a chance in the last moments, the goalkeeper makes the save, then they score from the set piece, this is football.”

On any lingering play-off hopes, Rohl conceded: “It makes no sense to speak about the play-offs. We should be honest and we’re not ready for the play-offs.

“We did an outstanding job and felt we were always close, but in the second half of the season in all these tight games, we could have won six home games, but we didn’t.”

On the rest of the season, he said: “Now let’s see what we can do in our last six games.”
