Danny Rohl says he is expecting to meet chairman Dejphon Chansiri in the coming days with regard to possible January transfer targets … and has confirmed that loan signing Shea Charles is likely to be returning to Southampton at the end of the month.
Mr Chansiri told the fans’ forum on Wednesday evening that he has not spoken with the manager recently and that Danny Rohl had not presented him with a wishlist of potential new players for the current transfer window.
At today’s pre-Leeds match press conference, Rohl said he had a meeting with the head of recruitment earlier this month and that he thought everything was clear, adding: “If that is not the case then I am a little bit surprised but that is not a problem and we should fix a meeting very soon and go forward.”
On communication between chairman and manager, Rohl said: “Now he is here in Sheffield we have the opportunity to talk face-to-face which is important. Also that we are listening to each other and try to understand each other and there should not be an issue about us doing this.”
He continued: “The most important key is the club and to do everything right for the club, we are in a good position in the table and should try to put all our energy into this – this is what our fans deserve.
“I try to give all my energy to the group, to my players, to the club and with this mindset I believe we can achieve something good this season.
“One of the key points since I’ve been here is the togetherness between the team and the fans, which is really special, and the togetherness between me and the fans is outstanding. I didn’t expect this to come so soon and it’s great.”
Meanwhile, Southampton have activated a recall clause in Charles’ loan agreement, meaning that the key midfielder will exit Hillsborough at the end of the month, unless a new arrangement can be struck, which is seemingly looking unlikely.
Rohl said today: “It is really sad but this is football. We really rate him highly, he has been a big, big player for us and I am convinced he has a great career ahead of him in the top division.
“There is maybe a small chance to get him back, I don’t know yet for certain, but I think it will be very tough for that to happen.”
