The Owls defeated Stocksbridge Steels 4-3 in a penalty shootout at Hillsborough on Wednesday evening after their Sheffield and Hallamshire Senior Cup tie ended 3-3 in normal time.

The match saw the return of Pierce Charles in goal after his lengthy injury lay-off. He played the full 90 minutes before being replaced by Jack Phillips and the latter made a crucial save in the shootout which, combined with successful spot kicks from Devlan Moses, Reece Johnson, Joe Emery and Harry Evers, saw us through to the next round.

Wednesday led 2-0 in the first half through Cole McGhee and Moses but Steels pulled a goal back before half time and they were level just short of the hour.

Jarvis Thornton scored a 25-yarder to put us back in front but Stocksbridge took the game to penalties with another equaliser before we clinched victory with that penalty shootout.

Charles (Phillips 90), Emery, McGhee (Jessop 83), Johnson, Evers, Shipston (Oliver 63), Kamwa (Sopala 45), Thornton, Moses, Grainger (Akpobi 63), Bayliss.
