Pierce Charles looks certain to return to the Wednesday squad for tomorrow’s trip to Blackburn.
Keeper Charles, who has been sidelined since August with a shoulder injury, was back in action for the Owls at Hillsborough on Wednesday evening as we defeated Stocksbridge Steels in a penalty shootout to settle our Hallamshire Senior Cup tie.
Head coach, Henrik Pedersen, said at Thursday’s press conference that he was “really impressed with Pierce yesterday” and indicated that Charles is ready to join up again with the matchday squad.
Pedersen also praised Charles’ emergency replacement, Ethan Horvath, for his displays in the young keeper’s absence, saying: “I have explained the situation to Ethan and he understands. Ethan has done a great job – much more than we could have expected.”
Max Lowe, who missed last weekend’s home defeat to Preston through injury, remains a doubt but Dominic Iorfa is able to return to the squad after serving a one-match ban and Liam Cooper could be another starter.
Having received another six-point deduction from the EFL this week, we now sit on minus 10 points, 27 behind fourth from bottom Swansea before tomorrow’s games.
Opponents Blackburn have won just once at home in the league this season and sit in 18th place ahead of Saturday’s fixtures.
