Carlos Carvalhal praised the fans for their support when Wednesday were reduced to 10 men against Preston today.
The Owls were one-up when Fernando Forestieri was shown a red card after 65 minutes and the Hillsborough crowd then turned up the noise levels, inspiring a second goal through a Steven Fletcher penalty 15 minutes later.
Carvalhal said: “The support of the fans was important when we had 10 men … and we started playing better because of that.”
The head coach said he was very happy with the overall display of his players, particularly given the changes we had to make in the first half after injuries to Ross Wallace and Glenn Loovens.
Reflecting on Preston’s double sending off in the closing minutes, when two of their players were fighting each other, Carvalhal said: “I was confident that even if they had kept 11 players we would win the game.”
