Former Owls boss Carlos Carvalhal was amongst those sending best wishes to new manager Steve Bruce on his appointment to the Hillsborough hotseat.
He tweeted: ‘Wishing Steve Bruce all the best at @swfc. Hope he enjoys being part of the Owls family and has a successful time at this fantastic club’.
Ex-Owls striker Clinton Morrison, who played under Bruce at Birmingham, said on his Twitter account: ‘So happy to see my friend and old boss Steve Bruce get the manager’s job at @swfc. He is a top manager and Sheffield Wed is a massive club. Hopefully he can bring the good times back to the club. I played for them and it is a brilliant club with good fans and good people’.
Our former keeper Chris Kirkland told the Sheffield Star: “He’s one of the best managers I’ve worked with. He supports his players and I think Sheffield Wednesday are extremely lucky to have him.
“His man-management skills are great. I was at Wigan with him and I probably played the best football of my career under him. His record as well. He gets teams promoted and also his name is well-respected throughout the game.
“But the biggest thing I’d say is that he treats his players right and he knows how to get the best out of players.”
And son Alex Bruce, who played in our division one play-off final win over Hartlepool in 2005 while on loan at Wednesday, tweeted: ‘Funny old game and how things work out. I know from my own experience at Hillsborough back in 2004-05 dad has joined a great club with fantastic support. Let’s hope he can now bring success and get the club back in the Premier League’.
