Carlos Carvalhal hopes Fernando Forestieri will be fit to return for Wednesday’s home clash with Wolves on Monday.
Forestieri missed today’s 1-1 draw at Preston after picking up an injury at Newcastle and Carvalhal responded to rumours that he was omitted as he might be leaving in the transfer window by saying that he was “100 per cent injured” and that he hopes the player will be back for Monday.
Reflecting on the Preston point, Adam Reach scoring a last-minute equaliser with our only shot on target, Carvalhal said: “Preston created a lot of problems for us, they put a lot of pressure on our team and made it difficult for us to play our usual style of game.
“It is important we stay like a team to the end and believe we can achieve a point right to the last minute.”
Carvalhal admitted we had the luck today but said we have not always had this on other occasions this season.
He added: “We missed some pace in the game. That is why we put Adam Reach further forward in the second half.”
Looking forward, Carvalhal said the return of players like Forestieri and Kieran Lee – along with new loan signing Callum McMananam – will help inject that pace back into the team.
