James Beadle was an unused sub as England’s under-21s scored two late goals to defeat Ukraine 2-1 in their Euro Championships qualifying group match at the Vitality Stadium this evening.
Wednesday’s loanee keeper had to settle for a place on the bench, Burnley’s James Trafford preferred in goal for the Young Lions, and a late double from Manchester City’s James McAtee turned a 1-0 deficit into victory over group leaders Ukraine, keeping alive their hopes of automatic qualification for next summer’s finals.
The England youngsters now go into Tuesday’s game against Azerbaijan still with a chance of overhauling Ukraine, or to qualify as one of the three best runners-up.
