George Hirst’s goalscoring reputation was further enhanced on Thursday evening when he bagged both goals as the England under-18s defeated Poland 2-0 at Stevenage.
The 17-year-old gave England the lead on 39 minutes and was on target again soon after half-time, being fouled in the box and getting up to slot home the penalty.
And he might have completed a hat-trick in the closing stages when another effort struck an upright.
The young Wednesday prospect tweeted afterwards: ‘Amazing feeling scoring another 2 goals for @England tonight in a good 2-0 win vs Poland’.
