It’s all to play for at Hillsborough in Wednesday evening’s Championship play-off semi-final second leg with Huddersfield after Sunday’s stalemate.
Wednesday played a distinctly containing game in the goalless first leg at the John Smith’s Stadium, reflected in the after-match stats, which showed the home side with almost 70 per cent possession while we failed to get a shot on target and forced just one corner in the 90 minutes.
Long-range efforts from Adam Reach and Barry Bannan, both in the second-half, were the closest we came to scoring while Huddersfield hit the top of the bar in the first-half through Izzy Brown and then Keiren Westwood produced two stops from Nahki Wells after the break.
Carlos Carvalhal said afterwards: “We have talked about the efficiency of our game this week and this was a very efficient performance.
“We were disciplined, we limited Huddersfield in the final third but we did not get a goal ourselves so I would say we are moderately happy but not euphoric.”
