Wednesday youngster Joel Akpobi has signed his first professional contract with the club.
The 18-year-old attacker made his Owls debut against Salford last night, assisting for our first goal and being voted Player of the Match by the fans.
Akpobi, who joined us last season after having trials with several clubs, said after his debut: “I was a bit nervous but once I got on the ball for the first time I felt amazing and enjoyed it.
“Then, when I saw that I got the assist, I was so happy.
“Even when I lost the ball, the manager and all the players kept me going into the one-on-ones. The reception was so good from the fans and it was such a nice feeling.”
Talking of being offered the contract, he said: “I’m so happy, I’ve got no words. When I was younger, I used to think ‘will I ever get one’. I was on trial for so many years at lots of clubs. It means so much to me.”
