New signing Callum Paterson looks likely to go straight into the Wednesday squad for our home clash with QPR on Saturday.
Garry Monk said of the striker who joined us from Cardiff this week: “We are delighted to have him in here. We know the attributes that he has got.
“He is a good age and profile. He has settled in very well and he will be in contention for the weekend.”
Paterson has a reputation for being a strong leader of the line and the Owls boss added: “I think the attributes that he brings is something we haven’t got and I think it was important to add to the strengths we have already got in that area.”
After last weekend’s defeat at Bristol City, keeping our points deduction at minus eight, Monk is keen for us to bounce back with a win against Rangers … especially as it is the final game before the international break.
He said: “When you perform poorly and don’t bounce back, that’s when confidence is lost – but we are performing at a level where we are competing in every game.
“We have played some tough games but we have overall acquitted ourselves really well. We were in positions to win those games against Fulham and Bristol City.
“We have to show we can bounce back and I am definitely more confident this season with our mentality and being able to do that.”
Monk added: “I want us to be aggressive with and without the ball. We have to be an energetic team.”
The Owls boss also confirmed that young midfielder Alex Hunt has recovered from his knee problem and said there are no new injuries after the Bristol reverse.
Osaze Urhoghide and Chey Dunkley continue their recoveries from injury, the former playing 45 minutes for the under-23s this week and looking to play the full 90 minutes for them on Monday, while Dunkley is slightly behind him in his recuperation.
