Owls on victory parade … chairman’s promotion message to fans

Wednesday’s return to the Championship will be marked by a victory parade in the city tomorrow evening.

After securing a place back in the second tier of English football with a 1-0 play-off final win over Barnsley at Wembley yesterday, the Owls will be celebrating with an open top bus party which will leave Devonshire Green at 5.30pm and is planned to arrive at Sheffield Town Hall about half an hour later.

With the route closed to traffic, the bus will travel at walking pace to allow the fans and players alike to celebrate along the route.

Supporters can also join in the celebrations outside the Town Hall in a traffic-free Fan Zone and there will then be a civic reception for players and staff.

Meanwhile, chairman Dejphon Chansiri has spoken today about the club’s promotion, saying in a statement on the club website: “First of all, I would like to extend my personal congratulations to Darren, the squad and all our staff for the perfect end to a remarkable season.

“The season will live long in the memory, with Wembley something to savour for everyone who wears the blue and white of Sheffield Wednesday.

“We achieved promotion together, as a team and a club. To all our incredible fans at Wembley and everyone who was cheering all over the world, I simply say thank you.

“Your support has been unrivalled, you have shown the football world just what the badge of Wednesday means.

“I have never experienced anything like Wembley yesterday but then I have never experienced anything like this season.

“Our promotion and the manner in which we achieved it together, on and off the pitch, shows that anything is possible.

“The journey now continues. The next stop is the Championship – one step closer to where we all want our wonderful club to be.”
