‘I thought we played the perfect game against a strong side’

Darren Moore felt Wednesday “played the perfect game” today with a 3-1 win over Wycombe at Hillsborough.

Reflecting on a victory that lifted us into third place in the table, the Owls boss said: “We scored early, had the setback, but we just got straight back into it, got the second goal and the icing on the cake was Pato coming off the bench at the end to get his goal.

“I thought we played the perfect game today against a strong, experienced team and I’ve told the players that.

“If I had a small critique, it is that when we got into some dangerous areas we either chose the wrong pass or didn’t get the final contact on it.

“But listen, we have beaten a very good, experienced team and credit to the players. We now have no midweek game so that means a week of hard work on the training ground and that’s what I like.”

Looking back on the first 10 league games of the season, Moore added: “We are pleased with the way the first 10 games have gone. There has only been one game in there in which we didn’t perform, for whatever reason, but the response from that performance has been excellent.”

On the injury front, Barry Bannan received treatment on the pitch against Wycombe and Moore said he will be assessed on Monday while fellow midfielder George Byers missed the match with a bruised foot, the manager saying: “That type of injury takes time to go down so we’ll assess him. He’s got a full week to recover.”
