Fans take plaudits from boss and players

Carlos Carvalhal and his players have been sending their thanks to the fans via Twitter after the disappointment of Saturday’s play-off final defeat.

Manager Carvalhal tweeted: ‘I’m very proud  “best fans in new Wembley so far” told me a responsible from stadium. WAWAW’

Fernando Forestieri: ‘Thank you so much for all your support. This season we had lot of emotions!! When we started the season no one expected us to get to the final at Wembley! I am proud all my team mates and the staff! Enjoy the holidays everyone.’

Kieran Lee: ‘Thanks for all the amazing support throughout the season, especially yesterday, it truly has been unbelievable. It’s a very difficult way for the season to end but we’ll be back.’

Barry Bannan: ‘Can’t explain how much what happened yesterday hurts me but it’s how u come back from things like this – fans well best I’ve seen thanks a lot.’

Liam Palmer: ‘A sad end to what has been a great season. Today was an occasion that will live long in the memory, that’s for sure. The support of 40,000+ fans inside the stadium was truly remarkable. To be a part of this team and this wonderful football club is an absolute honour. We will be back stronger next year and go again!’

Gary Hooper: ‘The fans were unbelievable yesterday.’
