Day the London Owls earnt our stripes!

What goes round comes round!

Wednesday returning to the ‘1965-1972 shirt’ for the first home league game of the season last weekend stirred memories of the 72-73 campaign … when we welcomed back the stripes, and Peter Swan, to Hillsborough.

It was the first match of the season, against this Saturday’s opponents Fulham, and for the London Owls it was our first-ever coach trip to S6 … even though we weren’t officially formed as a club until two years later.

Club chairman, Colin Grant, says: “I recall the coach breaking down on the M1 on the way up to the game – but we still made it in time for kick off. And in the end it turned out to be one of those great days in the Hillsborough sun with Wednesday winning 3-0, thanks to goals from Brian Joicey, John Holsgrove and the one and only Mick Prendergast.

“As well as myself, I recall Dave Cooke being on the trip, along with Peter Hennessy. I think Tony Sturgeon, John Townsend, Sean Byrne and Andy Evzona were also on board and Richard Hillman may well have been there as well.

“It would be good to hear from any other London Owls who were on this historic coach trip!”
