Automatic promotion hopes all but over for Wednesday

Wednesday’s hopes of automatic promotion are surely all but over after Plymouth and Ipswich both won this evening.

With leaders Plymouth 2-0 winners at home to 10-man Bristol Rovers and second-placed Ipswich beating Barnsley 3-0 at Oakwell, they both need to take just two points from their final two matches to seal the top two places.

As the table stands, Wednesday trail Ipswich by four points and Plymouth by five so, even if we were to win our final two games – at Shrewsbury on Saturday and then at home to Derby – it is highly unlikely that either of our in-form rivals will slip up at this stage of the season.
