‘Young keeper duo are future of club’

Garry Monk has talked of how he sees Cameron Dawson and Joe Wildsmith as the future of goalkeeping at Hillsborough.

While acknowledging the important part the experience of Keiren Westwood still has to play in the way ahead, Monk also spoke of the potential of the two young keepers.

Commenting on Dawson, Monk said: “Cameron is a big part of the future here, a big part of my plans. It’s important that we keep him at the club and he also wants to be here.”

Wildsmith has been sidelined since suffering knee ligament damage while playing on our pre-season tour in Germany but is expected to return to match action with the under-23s next week.

Monk said of Wildsmith, who was injured before the manager’s arrival: “It will be great to see him back and I’ll be excited to see him playing as well.”

He added: “There is lots of potential in both of them. They are the future of the club, for sure.”
