Joe Wildsmith is set to start in goal for Wednesday’s Carabao Cup tie at Sunderland on Thursday evening.
Wildsmith has begun the season as number two to Cameron Dawson but Jos Luhukay confirmed that he will be in the starting line-up for the cup match, with the Wednesday boss also expected to give other squad members a runout at the Stadium of Light.
In an interview after the 1-1 draw with Hull on Saturday, Luhukay told BBC Radio Sheffield that he had not fallen out with Keiren Westwood, who is now number three behind the two young keepers.
Westwood was already sidelined through injury when Luhukay arrived as manager in January and the experienced keeper was eventually ruled out for the rest of the season.
Luhukay said that Dawson and Wildsmith had done a fantastic job in Westwood’s absence and that is why they are his two first-choice keepers.
