Wickham shoots battling Wednesday to fine win

Leicester City

Wednesday turned in just the type of battling performance that has been missing for most of the season to topple league leaders Leicester at Hillsborough on Tuesday evening.

Stuart Gray, assisted by Lee Bullen, took charge of the team following the sacking of Dave Jones, and he couldn’t have got off to a worse start with Anthony Knockaert firing Leicester ahead after just two mnutes.

However, Wednesday then showed the spirit and aggression sadly lacking under Jones and two fine finishes from Connor Wickham after eight and 24 minutes had us ahead.

After that, we rode our luck at times and Damian Martinez pulled off two excellent second-half saves to deny Jamie Vardy and David Nugent, while Wickham forced a fine stops from Kasper Schmeichel.

However, the overriding feature was Wednesday chasing down the opposition and fighting for possession and we held out for a fine victory – earning a standing ovation from the 20,000 crowd at the final whistle.
