Jones: We’re all in this together

Dave Jones has spoken of the excellent team spirit at S6 on the eve of the crucial derby clash with Barnsley.

Anything other than a victory at Oakwell tomorrow will increase the pressure on Jones, after seven successive defeats, and could also see us getting cut further adrift in the Championship relegation places.

A defiant Jones, who asked for patience this week after saying that he wouldn’t quit following last Saturday’s defeat to Bristol City, said today: “There is a great camaraderie in this group. Everybody here wants everyone else to do well and that is the most important thing.”

Looking ahead to the game, Jones said a lack of concentration and, at times, discipline over the full 90 minutes has been letting us down and that we’ll need to rectify this if we want to return from Barnsley with the bragging rights – and three points.

Jermaine Johnson and Chris O’Grady are all-clear to play after picking up knocks against Bristol City and Mamady Sidibe has been back training this week. Chris Lines, Martin Taylor and Daniel Jones have all been hit by a bug but are expected to have recovered, while Jay Bothroyd is still out injured.

Jones also confirmed that Reda Johnson returned to training today after a long lay-off with a foot injury.

* Ex-Owl Marcus Tudgay is likely to figure tomorrow as he is on loan to Barnsley and has said that if he scores tomorrow then he will not celebrate.
