‘We had chances to get in winning position’

Garry Monk reflected on two missed chances in the first half but overall was reasonably happy as we took a point from one of the promotion favourites, Watford, in our goalless draw at Hillsborough this afternoon.

Dominic Iorfa and Tom Lees both failed to hit the target with excellent headed opportunities in the opening 45 while Josh Windass looked to be fouled in the box, the Owls boss saying: “We had the better of the first half and they probably had slightly the better of the second half.

“In the first half we had a couple of chances we should have capitalised on from set plays, clear headers where we could have scored and then we should have had a clear penalty.

“They came on stronger in the second half but we were playing against a good side.”

He added: “In the second half we didn’t show good enough composure on the ball, as we did in the first half, but no team is going to allow you just to carry on doing that.

“Overall, it’s another clean sheet, every point is vital and we had the opportunities in the first half to get ourselves in that winning position.”
