We deserve our place in next round says Gray

Stuart Gray said he felt Wednesday fully deserved their place in the FA Cup fourth round, despite a second-half scare against non-league Macclesfield.

The Owls looked to be in control of the tie with a one-goal advantage after the first 45 minutes, only to see the visitors equalise midway through the second period and almost grab a shock lead, before a late three-goal blast earnt us a trip to Rochdale in the next round.

Gray said: “We started very, very well and got our noses in front with Chris Maguire scoring. But we just couldn’t get that second goal, very much like the first tie.

“I said at half-time that they would have a 10 or 15 minute period and so we had to make sure we were two or three goals in front by then.”

That didn’t happen but Gray said the Macclesfield equaliser was “probably the kick up the backside that we needed”.

He added: “Overall, we thoroughly deserved the win and it was good to have four different scorers again.”
