Three successive league defeats as Wednesday pay penalty

Wednesday’s faltering promotion challenge continued with a third successive league defeat at Chesterfield on Saturday.

We began the game in excellent fashion but failed to capitalise on dominating the first 30 minutes and when Jermaine Johnson went off injured during the first half our impetus seemed to go with it.

Chesterfield turned the tables in the second half in terms of possession and grabbed the all-important goal on 78 minutes, Dean Morgan scoring from the penalty spot after a foul by John Bostock.

Wednesday rallied and Rob Jones had an effort cleared off the line almost immediately but it was another defeat for the Owls, with automatic promotion now looking a long way off.
