Thompson’s verdict after first league defeat as stand-in boss

Caretaker boss Neil Thompson pointed to problems at both ends of the pitch after Wednesday’s poor display away to Coventry this evening.

Speaking after the 2-0 defeat, Thompson commented: “I said at half-time it was going to be the team who made the least mistakes that won it and we just made one or two errors that cost us.

“The lads worked hard but we lacked that finishing touch in the final third to get our noses in front.

“Scoring goals has been a problem all season, that’s not gone away, and it’s something we’re trying to resolve.”

It was Thompson’s first Championship defeat as stand-in manager while, on the injury front, he said Moses Odubajo was ruled out with a hamstring problem which will keep him out of Saturday’s home game with Preston while Chey Dunkley is back training on grass after his lay-off.
