Reda joins exodus as Owls let eight leave

Reda Johnson is the third fans’ favourite to be exiting Hillsborough this summer as Stuart Gray today revealed that eight players have not been offered new contracts.

Jermaine Johnson and Miguel Llera had both already made it public on social media that they would not be given fresh deals and now the popular character of Reda Johnson, who has had an injury-hit time at S6, joins them on the outgoing list. Anthony Gardner let it be known recently that he would be leaving the Owls after suffering a serious injury at the start of the season.

David Prutton, who was on loan at Coventry towards the end of the campaign, has also been released – along with Marftin Taylor and keepers Arron Jameson and Adam Davies.

Five loan players have each returned to their parent clubs – Damian Martinez, Sam Hutchinson, Benik Afobe, Leon Best and Andelko Savic.

Gray said: “There is no slight on the players I will be letting go because they are great professionals who have always gone about their business in the right and thoroughly professional manner.

“But every manager in the country has his own ideas over how he wants his squad to look moving forward and I am no different.

“I am sure the released players will have no problem whatsoever in gaining new clubs. I would like to thank them all for their support and service to Sheffield Wednesday and wish them the very best of luck for the future.”
