Pour show for Owls before rain stops play

Stuart Gray was critical of Wednesday’s first-half display before the game with Wigan was abandoned on the hour-mark at a rain-lashed Hillsborough.
James McClean put Wigan ahead midway through the first period and caretaker boss Gray said after the game: “You could say it’s a ‘get out of jail’ card for us because Wigan bossed us and bullied us in the first half.
“They adapted better to the conditions and we were very disappointing. I was very disappointed with the players and we had words at half time.
“I made a bold decision to bring on Jermaine and Atdhe and we were much sharper and livelier after the break.”
Both Gray and Wigan boss Uwe Rosler agreed that referee Keith Stroud made the right decision to call a halt after an hour, with Wigan leading 1-0, as torrential rain led to waterlogged conditions.
