Owls wait on trio ahead of Ipswich clash

Wednesday wait on fitness tests for Gary Hooper, Glenn Loovens and Keiren Westwood ahead of Saturday’s clash with play-off rivals Ipswich.

All three missed last weekend’s 4-1 drubbing at Bristol City and Carlos Carvalhal waits to see if they are ready to return against the Tractor Boys.

Hooper and Westwood look most likely to recover in time – the striker missed the Bristol trip after injuring a foot against Blackburn while Westwood pulled out of the City match when taken ill during the warm-up.

Loovens is seemingly more of a doubt after limping off with an ankle problem against Blackburn and, if he continues to be sidelined, Carvalhal is expected to look to either Michael Turner or Vincent Sasso as his replacement.

In addition, the head coach has to decide whether to recall Jack Hunt in place of Liam Palmer at right back while Aiden McGeady could find his place in the starting line-up under threat.

Wednesday go into the game in sixth place, five points clear of Cardiff in seventh and eight ahead of Ipswich. With only four games remaining after Saturday’s clash, victory over Mick McCarthy’s side would virtually end their play-off hopes … while a win would keep them in contention.
