Owls pair impress in World Cup victory

Barry Bannan and Steven Fletcher played key roles in Scotland’s 5-1 World Cup qualifier victory in Malta on Sunday evening.

Bannan, playing in his creative midfield role from the start, was outstanding for Gordon Strachan’s men while Fletcher, who came on as a substitute on 68 minutes, headed Scotland’s fourth goal 10 minutes later.

The Wednesday striker also played a major part in the Scottish team’s fifth goal, bursting clear and seeing his effort deflected onto the bar, with hat-trick man Robert Snodgrass netting the rebound.
