Owls move up table but fail to impress

Wednesday were left clinging to the fact that we moved up to ninth place and only two points from the play-off positions after an unimpressive goalless draw with fourth-placed Bristol City at S6 on Saturday.

On the downside, we failed to muster an effort on target in a hugely disappointing 90 minutes and are now 12 points off an automatic promotion spot.

Jordan Rhodes might have had an early penalty as he looked to be held by Nathan Baker and the same player missed our best chance of the game later in the half, heading over the top when unmarked.

Rhodes nodded another opening wide after the break and Tom Lees also saw a second-half header fly over the top,

Then, in a late Wednesday rally, Barry Bannan went down under a challenge from Hordur Magnusson as he burst into the box but penalty appeals were again waved aside.

That was just about the sum total of our attacking threats while City had only a handful of openings themselves … but the Robins will have been far happier with their point.
