Owls in home flop after taking two-goal lead

Wednesday turned in a typical ‘flatter only to deceive’ performance in a 3-2 home defeat to Charlton today.

We couldn’t have had a better start, going two goals up inside the first eight minutes with excellent strikes from Atdhe Nuhiu and Chris Maguire, but the defensive problems of recent weeks were there to see two minutes later when Marvin Sordell was allowed to run through to pull a goal back.

After that, the Owls failed to keep up the tempo of the early minutes while relegation-threatened Charlton began to look the more dangerous side and Sordell struck again just two minutes from half-time to level matters.

Wednesday continued to show a lack of urgency after the restart and it was no surprise when Sordell seized on a poor pass from Nuhiu to complete his hat-trick just after the hour-mark.

And any hopes of a late Owls revival for the 20,000-plus crowd never looked likely as Wednesday failed to cause any further real concerns to the Charlton defence.
