Owls hoping skipper Jones recovers in time for trip to Preston

Wednesday will be hoping Rob Jones is fit to play at Preston on Saturday.

Jones was forced off after 56 minutes at Walsall on Boxing Day, with Gary Megson explaining the skipper suffers from sciatica and that his back was too sore to continue.

Megson added that the sciatica comes and goes and often clears up quickly, so will wait to see how Jones feels later in the week.

Nicky Weaver was not considered for the goalkeeping position at Walsall as he had an abscess on a tooth and needed emergency dental treatment. It is too soon to know if he will have recovered for the Preston game but, if he does, then Megson could be tempted to recall him for the Deepdale trip, with Richard O’Donnell looking hesitant at times at Walsall.
