Owls held and lose play-off place

Wednesday dropped out of the play-off places tonight after twice failing to hold onto the lead in a 2-2 draw at struggling Bristol City.

We were ahead in both halves thanks to a close-range effort from Fernando Forestieri on 17 minutes and an excellent finish from the edge of the box by Ross Wallace six minutes after the break.

However, City equalised Forestieri’s opener through a Lee Tomlin penalty on 31 minutes – after a foul on the same player by Tom Lees – and then drew level for a second time with a fortunate deflection off Tammy Abraham with 20 minutes left.

With Derby winning 3-0 at Ipswich, they now leapfrog us into sixth place on goal difference = both teams on 46 points – while third-placed Reading stretched their lead over us to nine points after a 1-0 victory at Birmingham.
