Owls head for third round thanks to Nuhiu

Atdhe Nuhiu’s close-range header after 55 minutes saw Wednesday through to the third round of the Capital One Cup against Oxford at Hillsborough tonight.

Nuhiu challenged Oxford keeper Slocombe for Jeremy Helan’s high cross and, with the visitors claiming a foul, the striker reacted first to the resulting deflected effort from Jack Hunt to nod in from six yards.

Tom Lees and Vincent Sasso went close for the Owls in the first half and Wednesday had the majority of the chances and play before Oxford staged a late rally to cause a scare or two before our third round place was confirmed.
