O’Grady inspires fightback as Owls go through in cup tie

Chris O’Grady came off the bench to inspire Wednesday to a second-half comeback in their Capital One Cup first round tie at Oldham on Monday night.

The Owls had turned in a wretched first-half display, trailing by two goals to division one opponents and Nejc Pecnik missing a great chance to put us back in the game when he blasted a penalty over the bar just before the break.

Chris Kirkland made an outstanding save to prevent Wednesday going three down five minutes after the interval and three minutes later Jermaine Johnson’s speculative drive went through the hands of Oldham keeper Alex Cisak to put us back in the game.

Kirkland made another excellent stop before O’ Grady, who had impressed after coming on, headed the Owls level on 61 minutes from Pecnik’s cross and then nine minutes later turned and swivelled in the box to fire home from close range and put us in front for the first time.

And Michail Antonio rounded off the fightback three minutes from time with a cracker from the edge of the box.
