New twist in search for head coach

Wednesday’s search for a new head coach has taken another twist with the club now possibly trying to land Swindon boss Mark Cooper for the role … with expected replacement Carlos Carvalhal becoming general manager.

Reports from the Sheffield press say that Cooper was not interested in our initial approach for him to become Carvalhal’s assistant but that we may now think again on the new management structure in a bid to persuade Cooper to come to S6.

This would probably also mean Wednesday paying compensation to Swindon for their manager, who took them to the Division One play-off final last season.

After a successful spell as manager at Kettering Town, Cooper was snapped up by Peterborough in 2010 as successor to Darren Ferguson – only to be sacked just 13 games later.

He then returned to non-league football as boss at Darlington and had spells with Kettering {one game} and Telford before getting back into the Football League as assistant manager at Swindon in 2013, taking over as manager in August of that year.

Meanwhile, Carvalhal was in Sheffield yesterday to meet club officials, having apparently already agreed terms to join the Owls.
