Moore reflects on lack of ruthlessness in front of goal

Darren Moore rued Wednesday’s lack of a killer instinct in front of goal after this afternoon’s 1-0 defeat at Morecambe.

We had 67 per cent possession and 13 attempts on goal but, with only two of those efforts on target, Moore said afterwards: “It was a dominant display, we dominated in all areas of the pitch but the one most important area you want to dominate in is in terms of goals scored and that’s where we came up short.

“We have to learn, there will be games like this where teams will sit in a mid to deep block and it’s up to us to break them down. We had enough chances to win the game but the final touch in the final third or that real bit of individual brilliance was just lacking today.

“In terms of the game I can’t really complain about the players, they were excellent and everything we asked of them they did.”

He added: “I am buoyed with the fact that we had chances, with us creating chances like that we’ll score more than we miss.

“I said to the boys afterwards that I can’t ask for any more but my one small criticism was not having that ruthless mindset to kill the game off today.”
