Milan to back Jones in transfer window

Milan Mandaric is ready to give his support to Dave Jones by backing him in the January transfer window.

The Owls boss confirmed that Mandaric agrees with his plans to strengthen the squad in January and said: “We’re talkkng about players to help get us of this mess.”

Jones said he had made an approach for one player this week but that the individual had already agreed a deal with another club for January and the manager added it is important to recruit the right players, ones who want to play for the club and have the commitment and right attitude to do so.

Mandaric’s support of Jones is a response to recent mounting criticism from some sections of the fans and calls for him to be sacked. However, only two years ago Alan Irvine found himself in a similar situation as manager, Mandaric backing him in the January window despite the on-the-pitch struggles … only to sack him a few weeks later after further investment failed to bring the desired instant results.

* Stuart Gray, who worked with Jones at Southampton and Wolves, has joined the Wednesday coaching staff, with Jones talking about him bringing more experience to the backroom team.
