Joe back in contention for starting place

Joe Mattock is back in contention for a place in the starting line-up at Blackburn on Saturday.

He was expected to be out for at least six weeks after damaging an ankle at Charlton last month but Stuart Gray says his progress is ahead of schedule and he will come into consideration for the trip to Ewood Park.

However, Jeremy Helan has performed well after replacing Mattock, with his strong runs from left back also providing another attacking dimension from that side of the field and that could mean Mattock having to settle for a place on the bench against Rovers.

Stuart Gray said: “Jeremy has come in at left back and done well. He has got the shirt and it’s up to him to keep it.”

Helan finished third in the club’s November Player of the Month competition, Tom Lees narrowly winning the award, ahead of Keiren Westwood.
