Martin’s Taylor-made for Wednesday as Jones swoops again

Dave Jones continued his transfer deadline day business on Friday evening by sealing a deal for Watford central defender Martin Taylor for an undisclosed fee.

Taylor, 32, made 124 appearances for Blackburn Rovers, and then joined Birmingham City, a Premier League outfit at the time, in a £1.25m deal. He stayed at St Andrews for six years and played 117 times for the Blues, before signing for Watford on a free in January 2010, where he played 95 games and scored 10 goals.

While Wednesday have begun the season in excellent attacking form, they have often looked shaky at the back and Jones will be hoping that Taylor’s experience and presence will bring more stability to the defence.

Taylor has been allocated the number five shirt at S6.
