Dave Jones said he was happy with Wednesday’s final pre-season performance at Chesterfield this afternoon.
After seeing a weakened Owls outfit grab a late equaliser from Chris Maguire in a 1-1 draw, Jones said: “It was a good workout for us and it was also important that we didn’t pick up any injuries before next weekend.”
First-teamers Lewis Buxton, Reda Johnson, Jeremy Helan and Michail Antonio were all absent from the squad – along with injured close season signing Jacques Maghoma – with Jones clearly keen to ensure he has the strongest group possible to choose from for next Saturday’s Championship opener at QPR.
New signing Atdhe Nuhiu made his debut up front and went close on a couple of occasions. Jones said: “We’ve got to get him match fit but he did ok and there’s a lot to work with. He got through an hour and that was good.”
