Joao’s late strike seals second friendly win

Lucas Joao’s late goal saw Wednesday snatch a 3-2 friendly win at Mansfield on Saturday afternoon.

Joao, who came on for Marco Matias 10 minutes from time, turned the ball home from close range to seal a second warm-up victory in two games.

Jordan Rhodes headed us in front after 11 minutes with his third goal in the two matches but Mansfield struck back before half-time through George Taft.

Wednesday were back in front soon after half-time through a Tom Lees header, only for Mansfield to level again on 80 minutes through Rhys Bennett.

However, Joao had the final say to send Wednesday off to our Portugal training camp with those two wins under our belts.

The Mansfield game also saw Fernando Forestieri and Steven Fletcher back in match action before next month’s Championship kick off.
