Hutchinson in contention for ‘another six-pointer’ clash

Sam Hutchinson could be back in the Wednesday squad for this evening’s important clash away to Coventry.

Hutchinson, who returned to Hillsborough this week after leaving the club in the summer, has been in full training and caretaker boss Neil Thompson may be tempted to pitch him straight into competitive action, either from the start or off the bench.

Transfer window signing Andre Green made his Wednesday debut in the FA Cup at Everton on Sunday, playing the first 45 minutes at Goodison Park, and he could be in line for a Championship debut for the club.

Thompson has indicated that he might also be in a position to bring back some more experienced faces this evening, following injuries and the recent Covid outbreak at S6.

It’s our first league outing since New Year’s Day, when we defeated Derby to make it three wins and a draw in four Championship outings, and tonight’s game is almost another six-pointer, postponed matches due to Covid leaving us in 23rd place, six points from safety and seven behind tonight’s opponents.

We have games in hand on those sides immediately outside of the relegation zone but, with rivals having opened up a gap on us during our coronavirus postponements, points on the board become even more critical as we begin the second half of our fixtures for the season.
